well i just started using AE. what it does is what it says, it does finish up effects. it also really depends on what version as well AE pro could cost about any ware to $500-900 bucks. it is a bit complicated, i myself just got it a month ago and i only know the basics so far. i just bought a AE book which helps. its a very good program and if you have the money then i suggest you get it. hoped i helped.

Premiere all the way! Vegas has some cool features and I still like the fact that you can do Rotoscoping with it... But I still prefer premiere because you can do precise cuts.. and why not? I'm also pretty used to it..

Adobe Priemer has made editing so much easier and more exact for me. I mean I used MGI Video Wave 4 and 7, Pinnacle Studios 8 and 9. Both programs decent but horrible when it can to trying to time things out.

Well, I started with WMMver1. It was great for just starting to edit. Although, yes, it can be very unstable. Not as much as ver.2 was(for me), but could decide to crash without a warning. Advancing the timeline, splitting clips, rendering, etc. XP
Then I dabbled with Pinnocle a bit. I didn't think much more of it than I did with WMM, so I stayed with WMM. Tried out a few others that I can't remember the name. =/
Then a friend showed me Premiere and I was hooked. I could do the same things I was doing in WMM, but with more precision. So many tools that made my life easier and harder. Harder, mostly cause of the learning curve ease of the program, but once I got used to it I won't look back. Premiere is also buggy with the codecs you might use, or trying to do too much at once and no ram to back it up, etc. But, I get far less headache from losing unsaved work.
Wouldn't mind trying out something else, but for now I'm comfortable. ^^

Yeah. The learning curve for premiere is certainly steep. I've been dealing with it for some time now hehe.

i have used vegas before, and i didn't like it. I currently use premiere 6.5, and i absolutely love it, i don't have any problems what so ever using it. And then i also have AE 5.5 as well, but don't use it near as much as premiere.

well I use Vegas 6 I like its mask options a lot more than vegas5 But I have to say that if I'm going to make a video with a lot of effects I would use premiere 1.5 pro I like Vegas a lot more than premiere,it doesn't need so mutch ram and so but you cant transfer your files in After effects If you can do the thing with coppy paste your timeline frome vegast to AE I would throw premiere away right now

Agreed, Vegas to AE support would roxxor my boxxors, however, I believe you can huffy your Vegas vid and screw around with it in AE like that, but I doubt you'd get the same amount of flexibility... You could always edit in AE (lol) I hear it's a b1tch, but it has been done (see: Decoy) [Kristyrat] Edit: hah, damn sensor
